Democracy Do-List

A curated list of actions to take this week to protect democracy.

Indivisible NEO

After a historic day of election wins for democracy across the country, I hope all of you are feeling so much HOPE. There is so much work left to do, but we are gaining momentum. You are showing up and it is working. Many of the actions this week are tied to the government shutdown. See what you can do below.

Action List

Help restore funding for life-saving SNAP and WIC benefits

Almost 12% (1.39 million) of Ohio's population rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and over 535,000 of them are children. Now many of those people are at risk from getting the food they need to survive. Call your senators and ask them to end the shutdown so our neighbors who rely on this benefit don't go without.

Donate to the Indivisible NEO Hunger Network Fundraiser

As of today, we are up to $1,110, which is almost halfway to our goal of $2,600. We have 2,600 followers on Facebook (we hope you are one of them!), so if everyone donated $1, we can easily hit our goal.

Donate to your local food bank or other local organizations

Donate directly to your local food bank or buy gift cards for local community leaders to distribute to families in need of support. Many people in the community, such as leaders at schools and churches, know who needs help the most and can help distribute to those individuals and families.

Looking to do more? The No Kings Alliance has put together a fantastic guide for how to start a mutual aid project of your own.

Get your representatives to end the government shutdown

Use this script from Indivisible or use the 5 calls app for help with what to say. If you are among the millions of Americans facing spikes in your healthcare costs, make sure your elected official knows it!

Learn more about Honesty for Ohio Education

If you listened to Lisa Vahey of Honesty for Ohio Education at our last in-person meeting, you know that there is a lot going on at the federal, state and local level that can impact Ohio children. Sign up for their weekly newsletters to learn how you can get involved or review their Honesty Hot Sheet for the most pressing legislation happening now.

Cancel your Spotify account

Spotify is making big money off of ICE recruitment ads (so are YouTube, HBO, Hulu and Pandora). Despite swift public backlash and artists pulling their music from their service, Spotify is standing firm in their decision to help facilitate the militarization of our communities and disappearance of our neighbors.

Attend an event

We are always adding local events to our event calendar. Check back regularly to see what works for your schedule. We would love to see you out and about in the community, focused on things that matter most to you.
