It was another week of political theater, escalating war and working people getting left behind - so, a typical week in Trump's America.
Let's start with the absurd. Senator Jon Husted, who is already a co-sponsor of the SAVE Act - the GOP's signature voter suppression vehicle - apparently decided one voter suppression effort wasn't enough. This week he announced his own national Voter ID bill, complete with an aggressive press rollout. That's because this isn't really legislation; it's a press release dressed up as a bill. And the goal isn't to pass anything - it's to manufacture a moment so that Husted and his colleagues can point fingers and say, "Democrats blocked our national voter ID bill," and accuse the other side of being against election integrity. Jon Husted is willing to be used as a propaganda instrument, no matter what it costs his constituents.
Meanwhile, the US-Israel war on Iran is now in its third week with no end in sight. The US and Israel have been attacking Iran since February 28th, and the death toll continues to climb. According to Al Jazeera's live tracker, at least 1,444 people have been killed and 18,551 injured in Iran alone, including 168 children killed in a girls' elementary school in Minab, and 200 women among the dead. Thirteen US soldiers have also been confirmed killed, with 200 more injured.
And now the administration wants to dramatically expand this war. The Pentagon has asked the White House to approve a more-than-$200 billion supplemental funding request to Congress — a figure that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth not only didn't deny but described with the memorable phrase, "it takes money to kill bad guys." At the current rate of roughly a billion dollars per day, this $200 billion could fund the war for another 100 to 200 days.
And while all of this unfolds, TSA agents — essential workers required to show up every day — have gone without paychecks as the DHS shutdown stretches past five weeks. Democrats have made repeated attempts to fund TSA separately while negotiations over ICE reform continue. In just a 24-hour period, Senate Republicans blocked five separate bills to fund TSA, FEMA, CISA, the Coast Guard and other DHS functions. Both of Ohio's senators voted against funding TSA workers — workers who live in our communities and keep our airports running.
Looking ahead, we have a huge opportunity this Saturday, March 28, with the third No Kings shaping up be the biggest protest in U.S. history. We hope to see you there!
Action List
Join us at No Kings this Saturday, March 28
We have a huge opportunity this coming Saturday, March 28. No Kings 3 is almost here, and it's shaping up to set a new record as the single largest day of protest in U.S. history. Over 3,000 events are planned across the country, including dozens right here in Northeast Ohio. Click here to find the No Kings event nearest you.
Plans locked in for No Kings 3? Good. Now think about who you're bringing with you. Start with someone who shares your views but hasn't shown up to a protest yet. If everyone who came to No Kings 2 brought just one new person to No Kings 3, we'd shatter the 3.5% rule.
For guidance, join the No Kings Alliance this Wednesday for a virtual training on how to have conversations that actually move people to show up.
Demand the Senate end the illegal war on Iran
Congress never authorized this war, and now the Pentagon wants $200 billion more with no timeline and no clear goals. Urge your senators to act as a co-equal branch of government and demand the Trump administration halt this military campaign. Use Indivisible's action tool here.
Email your elected officials to stop the SAVE Act
The SAVE Act is a federal bill that would require documentary proof of citizenship — like a passport or birth certificate — to register to vote. Millions of eligible Americans don't have these documents readily available, which is precisely the point. Jon Husted's co-sponsorship makes it personal. Email your elected officials here.
Tell your senators and representatives not a penny more for ICE
Republicans are holding TSA workers' paychecks hostage in order to funnel more money to an agency that has repeatedly violated civil liberties and terrorized communities — without basic accountability measures. Email your MOC’s.
Call your Ohio state senator and vote NO on SB 214
This bill would remove firearm mufflers and suppressors from the classification of "dangerous ordinance" under Ohio law, effectively making it legal to own and use gun silencers without restriction. Suppressors make it significantly harder to detect gunfire — a serious public safety concern. Find your state senator here.
Oppose HB 693 - protect LGBTQ youth
This bill would ban Ohio state entities (likely including school counselors and social workers) from taking action to protect LGBTQ youth from unsafe home environments. It would also reverse city-level bans on conversion therapy — a practice rejected by every major medical and psychological organization in the country. Contact House Judiciary Chair Jim Thomas and tell him not to schedule any more hearings for HB 693. Call 614-466-8030 or email rep49@ohiohouse.gov.
One to watch: HB 486 - The Charlie Kirk "American Heritage Act"
HB 486, named in honor of white Christian nationalist, Charlie Kirk, passed the Ohio House in November and had its first Senate hearing on March 10th. The bill (among other things) would allow public school and university faculty to teach about the positive influence of "Judeo-Christian values on history and culture." When asked whether teachers could also cover the negative aspects of Christianity's historical role, the bill's sponsor, Rep. Gary Click, replied: "There are no negative aspects of Christianity."
Tell Senate Education Committee Chair Andrew Brenner not to schedule any more hearings at 614-466-8086 or Brenner@ohiosenate.gov. Also, contact your own state senator and ask them to oppose HB 486. Find your senator here.

March 4 General Meeting follow up
For those of you that weren't able to attend, below are the follow-up materials from our March 4th meeting presenters, Dean Jackson and Meaghann Lees.
Dean Jackson, with the Atlantic Council's Digital Forensic Research Lab and American University’s Center for Security, Innovation, and New Technology, speaking on what “artificial intelligence” means; how it is impacting our society and politics (and how it might do so in the future) and how you can respond as a consumer and, more importantly, as a citizen. View the presentation here.
Meaghann Lees joined us to give us a primer on the Signal app, discuss its benefits, and help us set it up and join Signal chats. View the presentation here.
No April 1 meeting and thank you to St. Paul's
We also wanted to thank St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Cleveland Heights for a great 14 months as our generous hosts. Unfortunately, our time there has come to an end, and we are in the process of brainstorming the future of our meetings. So there will not be a meeting on April 1. More information will be forthcoming!
Photos of the week | Tesla Takedown
On March 14, 2026, 55 protesters at the Tesla Takedown Lyndhurst watched as four City of Lyndhurst police cars pulled over motorists who were honking their horns in support of the protest. Just prior to this 57th week of protests, the city had put up signs marking the Tesla dealership as a “Quiet Zone." Read details in the WKYC TV-3 report. A week later, the city backed off as over 100 protesters attended, and observed that police at the protest were not stopping drivers who were honking their horns. Actually, several attendees said that it seemed like more people than usual were honking their horns in support. Here are are few of our favorite signs from the March 21st protest.
