Democracy Do List: Influencing the Election
Lately, it seems whenever Ohio is mentioned in the national news, it’s because one of our representatives did or said something awful.
Unelected Senator Jon Husted spent years promoting and celebrating data centers in Ohio, and now he is flailing in his attempt to position himself as a defender against rising energy costs.
Representative Max Miller continues to run for reelection despite multiple accusations of abuse against women.
And of course, JD Vance continues to carry water for the White House occupant. If you missed it, JD Vance is literally begging voters to 'Give us another chance' in this video clip.
But we must remember that Ohio’s high-profile right-wingers do not represent the state’s true political character: Democrats make up a full 43% of the state’s voters.
And with the GOP’s approval ratings cratering due to the public incompetence of its leadership, we have a great opportunity to redirect our state’s influence for the better.

Check your voter registration
Everyone in Ohio needs to check their voter registration on Sept. 29, 2026, and re-register by Oct. 5th if purged. In 2023, the Ohio government purged 26,000 Ohioans who hadn't voted in two cycles on Sept. 27, 2023, so they only had a few days to discover the purge and then re-register. Check your registration and make sure you are eligible to vote on Nov. 3.
Early voting
Early in person voting begins Oct. 6 and Indivisible is encouraging us to cast our ballots before election day. The schedule is sporadic so make sure to confirm before you head out to vote. Early voting happens at your County Board of Elections office. Hours are as follows for all locations:

The Ohio Dems have dozens of canvassing opportunities all over the area from now until election day. They are flexible on times and dates. Search Ohio Wins on Mobilize to find an event near you. They also provide weekly trainings on how to talk to voters and canvassing 101.
