Democracy Do-List

A curated list of actions to take this week to protect democracy.

Indivisible NEO

If you've been feeling burned out or checked out, you're not alone - but staying disconnected rarely gives us the reset we actually need. As the warmer months bring more chances to gather, it's a good time to ease back in: show up to something simple, be in community and reconnect with the shared purpose that makes this work feel possible again.

This week, we're helping you prepare for May and the upcoming primary elections with our new voter guide! It's jam packed with helpful information so you're prepared to vote for the candidates who represent what you believe in. We're also urging you to call Congress to end the illegal war in Iran, to vote no on voter suppression and to commit to "no work, no school or no shopping" on May 1. Plus our next meeting and our very first Book Club!

Action List

View our NEW primary vote guide

Primaries are our chance to influence the party platform and actually vote for the change we want to see. When we overlook primaries, we're effectively telling the powers that be that we're happy with the status quo. Primaries are where direction gets set and how we begin to shape a Democratic party that truly reflects our values.

To help you make the most of the upcoming May 5th primary, we've launched the Indivisible NEO Primary Voter Guide. Get all the information you need to compare candidates down to county level races for Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake and Summit counties.

Keep telling Congress to end the illegal war in Iran

While Trump continues to spread misinformation about the real status of the war in Iran, costs rise for Americans, the world economy continues to be disrupted and thousands of lives are at risk. Tell your members of Congress that they must act to end this war that Trump and Israel launched or blood is on their hands too. Send an email through the link, then call your senators and representatives

Call your senators and tell them to vote NO on voter suppression

Republicans continue to push for a series of voter suppression bills - all variations of the SAVE Act, which would create unnecessary obstacles for eligible Americans trying to register to vote. This legislation requires every voter to provide proof of citizenship, like a passport or original birth certificate bearing their current legal name, while registering to vote for federal elections. Millions of Americans don't have these documents readily available, so it makes it significantly harder for everyday Americans to vote. Contact your senators today.

Join us on Cleveland May Day 2026: Workers Over Billionaires

May 1 from 4 - 6 p.m. at Cleveland Public Square

We're proud to be part of an incredible coalition of local labor and community organizations joining forces for May Day Cleveland. Join us for a rally in Public Square on Friday, May 1 from 4 - 6 p.m. as part of a nationwide mobilization calling for a general strike and economic boycott. Find more event information here

May Day is our chance to show what really powers the economy - our labor, our time and our spending. When we collectively step back from work, school and shopping, even for one day, we send a clear message that people matter more than profit and we're ready to act like it.

Attend our next in-person meeting

May 14 at 7 p.m. at Cuyahoga County Public Library Independence Brance

In partnership with the Ohio Democracy Project, join us for a discussion on the kinds of collective, strategic actions we can take to combat democratic backsliding and rising authoritarianism. We'll explore approaches ranging from symbolic actions (like protests) to noncooperation (like strikes and boycotts), as well as the forms of mutual aid that make sustained action possible. Register here or just show up!

Book club discussion on No Shortcuts: Organizing for Power in the New Gilded Age

May 19 at 6:30 p.m. on Zoom

Join us in reading "No Shortcuts: Organizing for Power in the New Gilded Age" by Jane F. McAlevey. This playbook for mass organizing draws on the author's experience organizing for the AFL-CIO and SEIU and her decades of scholarly work, to lay out a plan for how progressives can go about rebuilding powerful, people-powered movements at work, in our communities and at the ballot box. Register here

No Shortcuts is available at several branches of the Cuyahoga County Public Library (physical and audio via the Libby app) or for purchase here at these links:
