Act Now for Democracy: Donate and Upcoming Elections
Now is a great time to take a breath, regroup and prepare for the upcoming midterm elections. The Senate is out until mid-September and the House returns at the end of the month. While there is still a lot going on in the news - the one-year anniversary of the military occupation in D.C., Trump’s ballroom losing in federal court, the resignation of Karoline Leavitt, and so much more - we keep moving forward.
As we move into the fall, there is a lot of hope, as progressive Democratic candidates win primaries across the country and protest continues to be so powerful. While we don’t know what the future will bring, the construction at Big Bend National Park in Texas is on hold for at least the next two weeks due to bipartisan outcry over the harmful ramifications of increased border security in this special place. It’s a gentle reminder that every action makes a difference.

We’re channeling our support behind Brian Poindexter to help flip District 7 and give Democrats control of the House. While many of you live in District 11, a strong Democratic area, we want to focus our efforts in a neighboring district where the race is more competitive. Please consider joining us in Solon for ongoing canvassing efforts on behalf of Brian Poindexter and Annette Blackwell, both endorsed by our partner, the Working Families Party.
Our first canvass is this Saturday, August 22 at 1 pm. We'll meet at the Cuyahoga County Library, head out for canvassing and then wrap up the day with ice cream at Mitchell's in Solon.

Call on Senator Husted to protect TPS status for Haitians
More than 10,000 Haitians living in Springfield, Ohio are at risk of losing Temporary Protected Status and facing deportation. Even Governor Mike DeWine has called the underlying policy a mistake and warned that TPS holders out of the workforce will hurt Ohio’s economy, healthcare system and manufacturing base - sectors that depend heavily on Haitian workers. The Haiti Emergency Relief Act would extend TPS through the end of the Trump administration, giving families breathing room instead of facing immediate deportation to a country the U.S. government itself advises against traveling to. It already passed the House with bipartisan support.
Indivisibles across the state are calling on Senator Husted (our last hope) to find his humanity and extend TPS status for our Haitian brothers and sisters through the Haiti Emergency Relief Act.

On Thursday August 20th at 6 pm, OVRC is hosting their monthly Election Protection Monthly call. This is a good way for new volunteers to to learn about election updates and Election Protection opportunities in Ohio for the November 2026 election.

In this two-part virtual training series, we’ll explore how to get out the vote, become a trusted messenger, prepare for election defense scenarios, and get in formation for fall activations. (The two sessions will build on each other, but it’s okay if you can only attend one.)
Delete the DoorDash App (for now)
Delete the DoorDash App until they stop fighting to give Trump more control over the District of Columbia. DoorDash has stood silently by while ICE detains and murders their delivery drivers. They said nothing when Trump flooded DC streets with the National Guard. But now, DoorDash has voiced their support for HR 9720, a bill that would give Trump more authority over DC and its residents, all so they can kill a 20-cent tax on delivery orders they don’t like (and which actually supports food stability programs). No matter where you live, you can have an impact by deleting your account until they meet the following conditions:
Immediately withdraw their support for HR 9720
Issue a public statement against ICE and other federal agents who are targeting and killing delivery drivers
State publicly that the "DC Safe and Beautiful Task Force," which led to Trump's federal occupation of the city, should end
