10 ways to deepen your involvement after No Kings | April 7, 2026

Democracy Do-List

A curated list of actions to take this week to protect democracy.

Indivisible NEO

The dust has settled from No Kings, and more than ever it’s time to reflect on how we keep the resistance alive. Eight million people in the streets made a powerful statement — but statements alone won’t save us from authoritarianism. Real change is built in the quiet, deliberate work we commit to in between the big moments. Whether or not you participated in a No Kings event, we encourage you to use this moment to go deeper.

10 ways to deepen your involvement after No Kings

  1. Take a more active role in Indivisible NEO

The most powerful about this movement isn’t any single march — it’s the people who show up week after week and build something lasting together. When you’re connected to a community of like-minded neighbors, the work feels less overwhelming and far more meaningful. Indivisible NEO is that community. Getting more involved means having a real stake in what happens next. We’re currently recruiting members interested in:

  • Developing Voter and Legislative Guides | Put your research and writing skills to work crafting nonpartisan guides voters actually need. Just 3–5 hours a month, mostly remote, on your own schedule — your work goes directly into the hands of people making decisions that shape their communities.

  • Planning Social and Community Building Events | Are you a natural connector who loves bringing people together? Help us design and program a series of community events through spring and summer — creative gatherings with food and fun that also support local businesses who’ve stood with our movement.

  • Registering Voters | With critical elections ahead, we need volunteers to help at events and around town — checking registrations, getting people registered, and sharing relevant information. We’re assembling a team now.

  • Pitching in at Cleveland Pride | The iNEO Arts Committee / See You Next Tuesday is looking for volunteers for Cleveland Pride — prop making, set-up, banner carrying, and more. Email Wethepeople@next2sday.com to volunteer.

  1. Show up - every week, not just on the big days

The headlines go to the national days of mobilization, but the real muscle of this movement is built in between them. On any given week in Northeast Ohio, there are protests, community actions, workshops, and educational events — both in-person and virtual — organized by a wide network of groups fighting alongside us. These weekly opportunities are where relationships form, skills develop, and collective power takes root.

  1. Find a local mutual aid effort to support

Mutual aid is a voluntary, reciprocal exchange of resources where community members support each other to meet immediate needs — built on solidarity, not charity. It’s about creating our own solutions where government and social services have fallen short. Active mutual aid efforts in Cleveland:

  1. Make a plan for May 1st

May Day is the next national day of action. The goal: demand a nation that puts workers over billionaires and refuse business as usual — No School. No Work. No Shopping. Indivisible NEO will be joining a coalition of organizations at Public Square in Cleveland.

  1. Commit to regular calls to elected officials

Calling elected officials remains our single most effective tactic. We’ve seen how concentrated, sustained public pressure can move the needle — and it works best when it’s consistent. Our Signal-based Call Brigade sends you daily calls-to-action on the issues where your voice carries the most weight. We hold each other accountable, share experiences, and build the habit together.

  1. Check your registration and vote on May 5

Primary elections are where the direction of the Democratic Party gets decided — and where informed, engaged voters have outsized influence. If we want candidates who will push back harder on authoritarianism and corporate power, we have to show up in primaries, not just general elections. Take five minutes now to make a plan.

  1. Sign up to be a poll worker

Free and fair elections don’t run themselves — they depend on trained, civic-minded people willing to staff polling locations. Pro-democracy volunteers serving as poll workers help ensure that every eligible voter can cast their ballot without intimidation or obstruction. It’s a paid, one-day commitment with a real impact on the integrity of our elections. Sign up to be a poll worker.

  1. Engage your neighbors directly

One of the most powerful and underused tools we have is a genuine conversation with the people around us. Canvassing your own block, hosting a small living room conversation, or simply talking with coworkers and family members about what’s at stake can shift minds and move people to act. You don’t need a script — you need curiosity and honesty. Ask Indivisible NEO about getting connected with relational organizing resources and training.

  1. Support independent and local media

An informed community depends on journalists doing the work of holding power accountable at every level — local school boards, city councils, state legislatures, and beyond. Subscribe to or donate to a local or independent news outlet in Northeast Ohio. Share their stories. Democracy doesn’t just need protesters; it needs an informed public, and that starts with supporting the people doing the reporting.

  1. Support local businesses that have supported our movement

One of the most tangible ways to put our values into action is to spend our dollars with businesses that have stood with us. The following local businesses participated in the We Ain’t Buying It Boycott or have otherwise aligned with our values — and they also happen to deliver awesome products and services. Make it a point over the next week or two to support at least one of them.

  • Lakewood Art Supply

  • Phoenix Coffee

  • Loganberry Books

  • Brewellas

  • The Reading Room CLE

  • Glossy Nails

  • Vintage and Vaina

  • Dewey’s Pizza

  • Cleveland Vintage Design Creative

  • Zhug

  • Brewnuts

  • Tabletop

  • Something Good Social Kitchen

When you spend locally with aligned businesses, you’re not just getting something great — you’re helping build the kind of economy that reflects our values.
